Lenny G and his Capital City Swing Band
Friday, March 7, 2003

Lenny Graf was weaned on entertainment. His dad was Juliet’s music director and he remembers Bob Hope pulling his leg and Rich Little throwing his voice, enticing the five- year- old to search the house for his favourite cartoon characters. Lenny grew up surrounded by the sounds of Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw and Ella Fitzgerald. With their images in his eyes, he studied jazz saxophone and classical flute at York University, and won the much coveted Grennick Award. He features the sopranino saxophone, the smallest instrument in the saxophone family, a full octave higher than the alto, yet with the melodic quality of a clarinet, and the ability to soar like a trumpet. He has been involved singing and playing big-band swing for 20 years.
