This season's concert series features four exceptional groups in one of the best series in our 28 year history!

Climax Jazz
Friday, October 10, 2003

Climax are known for their wide variety of tunes, with lots of vocals: musicians who play straight from the heart and with a great sense of humour. No wonder they are one of the most popular traditional jazz bands around. Climax's latest CD, Toronto to New Orleans reflects their varied repertoire: marches, dance tunes, blues and traditional popular songs. Climax's permanent home since 1983 is the Chick'N'Deli restaurant and bar, 744 Mount Pleasant Road, in Toronto's antique district. They play every Saturday, 4 to 7 pm to a standing room only crowd of enthusiastic jazz and dance fans of all ages.

Robert Silverman
Friday, November 7, 2003

This distinguished pianist has performed in concert halls throughout North America, Europe, the Far East and Australia. Under the batons of such renowned conductors as Seiji Ozawa, John Eliot Gardiner, Gerald Schwarz and Bramwell Tovey, he has performed with the Chicago Symphony, the Sydney Symphony, the BBC (London) Symphony, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, and every major orchestra in Canada. Many aspects of Silverman's playing are frequently noted: a polished technique, an extraordinary range of tonal palette, an uncanny ability to sing his way into the heart of a phrase, and his probing interpretation of the most complex works in the repertoire.

Haines & Leighton
Friday, February 6, 2004

You don't often associate showmanship with folk music, but that's exactly what you get when Mark Haines and Tom Leighton take to the stage. Both are gifted musicians - Leighton on accordion, keyboard and bodhran, Haines on fiddle and guitar. Add Leighton's innovative arrangements and Haines' captivating burnished baritone and you end up with an evening of exciting, eclectic music ranging over folk, country, roots, ethnic and jazz idioms. Perhaps more than anything Haines and Leighton transmit their love and passion of music to their audiences. You can see it in their faces - the pleasure, the delight, the intensity, the commitment, the joy. You will clap, hoot, whistle and stomp your feet.
