The Brigham Phillips Big Band was formed in 1983 by pianist / trumpeter / arranger / composer Brigham Phillips, originally as a means to meet other Toronto musicians and to get his music performed. Since then the band has performed at clubs, theatres, Ontario Place and various jazz festivals, playing an exciting mix of big band jazz a la The Boss Brass with a hint of the Basie and Herman bands. The band’s line-up has changed remarkably little over the years and includes some of Canada’s top names in jazz - Mike Murley, Perry White, Al Kay, Mark Kelso, Steve McDade, Phil Dwyer, et al. In 1995 and 2002 the band opened the Toronto International Downtown Jazz Festival.

Classical in intent, eclectic by design, Quartetto Gelato not only thrills its audiences with the mastery of eight instruments, but offers the wonderfully unexpected bonus of a brilliant operatic tenor. With a performance repertoire that travels imaginatively between classical masterworks, operatic arias and the sizzling energy of tangos, gypsy and folk songs, the group’s relaxed stage presence and delightful humor establishes an immediate rapport with traditional and non-traditional classical audiences alike.

Taking the listener to a time when a good melody was king and strong lyrics were paramount, Denzal Sinclaire’s exquisite delivery is breathtaking. His interpretations of songs from the glory days of Broadway, along with his own compositions have earned him comparisons to Nat King Cole.
