The Brigham Phillips Big Band was formed in 1983 by pianist /
trumpeter / arranger / composer Brigham Phillips, originally as a
means to meet other Toronto musicians and to get his music
performed. Since then the band has performed at clubs, theatres,
Ontario Place and various jazz festivals, playing an exciting mix of
big band jazz a la The Boss Brass with a hint of the Basie and
Herman bands. The band’s line-up has changed remarkably little over
the years and includes some of Canada’s top names in jazz - Mike
Murley, Perry White, Al Kay, Mark Kelso, Steve McDade, Phil Dwyer,
et al. In 1995 and 2002 the band opened the Toronto International
Downtown Jazz Festival.
